Raising awareness on NASFUND’s will kit
Forty-two employees of NASFUND employer member, Hargy Oil Palm Ltd are now aware of the legal significance of a Will thanks to NASFUND, and Office of Public Curator & Official Trustee. Freddy Manihoru, Gordon Evans, and Oala Moi were in Bialla, West New Britain Province during the week and piloted a 2-day Will discussion & tutorial training. Also present was Frank Aki, Senior Legal Officer with Office of Public Curator. Participant-feedback was generally positive with some saying:
- Training is the first of its kind;
- Training is an eye-opener. Now we have anew and clear understanding;
- We now know the difference between NASFUND Form SF2 and a Will.
Of the participants, most were community extension officers, agriculture advisors, lands officers, and human resource and payroll clerks. Twenty participants were women. A common misconception amongst participants was the NASFUND Form SF2. Many thought this was a Will and the training allowed NASFUND to say to the participants that their Form SF2 is not a Will. Participants were urged to promote the importance of Will-making to the company’s employees, and to the company’s 1100 land settlement scheme smallholders.
